Constable Care strikes a pose with the pros at Joondalup's Little Feet Festival

Summer days are approaching and that can only mean that it’s festival season. After being south bound at Melville’s Little Hands Festival, Constable Care couldn’t get enough of the park life this month as he headed for another big day out at Joondalup's Little Feet Festival.
But far from being all about bands you’ve never heard of, these awesome community outdoor events were strictly designed for kids, and there were heaps of activities to keep children of every age entertained. Perhaps in case of a Glastonbury style downpour, one of the biggest hits at Little Hands was the ‘arty brellas’ activity, with kids given the chance to paint themselves a beautiful brolly. There was a smorgasbord of other attractions, including bouncy castle, pony rides and face painting, and of course a certain pacing policeman greeting fans and shaking hands.
There was magic in the air north of the river the following Sunday at Joondalup’s Little Feet Festival. The setting by the Pines Picture Garden at Edith Cowan University’s Joondalup Campus lent itself to the occasion, and families were entertained with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Wonderland Ride. Constable Care was spotted getting beaten in a game of giant Connect 4 – better luck next time CC!
With the weather getting warmer, keep a lookout for Constable Care at a community event near you. Stay up to date with Constable Care’s whereabouts and walkabouts by following Constable Care on Twitter.
If you would like Constable Care to appear at your event, please contact the Constable Care office on (08) 9272 0000 or email mail@constablecare.org.au.

You'd better not cry, you'd better not pout, Constable Care is out and about!

The time of year is approaching when a very popular jolly old fellow comes to town to delight kids and parents and deliver good cheer to all. That’s right, Christmas is almost upon us and ‘Yule’ be able to catch Constable Care at a number of community events around Perth over the festive season.
Claremont launched the festive season with their Christmas Carnival on Thursday 24th November. From 4.30pm to 8pm the streets and laneways around the stylish suburb were closed off, and there were local bands, great food, street theatre and heaps of activities including a mechanical surfboard and a bungee run.

From 9.30am to 11am on Sunday December 4th, Riverside Drive in the CBD will host the most anticipated event on Perth's Christmas calendar. Over 40 floats and 1,700 performers will participate in the 2011 RAC Channel 7 Christmas Pageant, and in accordance with tradition Constable Care and performers will be part of the event. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day, including a sausage sizzle, fairground rides and much more.
Constable Care will be ‘Away in a Monger’ on Wednesday December 7th as he heads to Wembley for the Christmas at Lake Monger Festival. This is a free community event, and organisers are expecting over 1000 people to come along and sing carols, meet Santa and see the switching on of the Christmas lights.
If you see Constable Care at an event over Christmas, come and say hello – and remember he’s very partial to a mince pie!

Maylands School Wrapped With Vouchers

Billy, Laura and Constable Care can vouch for Steve being a good sport

Constable Care recently visited Maylands Peninsula Primary School to present 1000 'Sports for Schools Vouchers' to Principal Steve Salamon. The vouchers were collected by Constable Care staff and performers over a three month period, and will add to the grand total collected by parents, teachers and local residents.
It was a bright and breezy day as Constable Care arrived, and the gusty conditions helped a few of the vouchers escape from their bag. Fortunately, Year 3 students Billy and Laura were on hand to meet Constable Care and help track down any that were blowing in the wind... which was lucky as Mr Salamon was a bit tied up!

Chasing down escapees is all in a day’s work for Constable Care and all 1000 vouchers were soon safely stashed and ready to be put towards some brand new sports equipment for the school.

Coles’ Sports for Schools scheme gives customers vouchers which can be redeemed by schools for a wide variety of sports equipment. The Constable Care team are passionate about community values and living a healthy lifestyle, and were delighted to be able to contribute towards sports equipment for local children.
If you would like Constable Care to appear at your school’s event, or want to enquire about a performance in your school or day care centre, please contact (08) 9272 0000 or email mail@constablecare.org.au.

From The Experts: Road Safety

Wearing helmets saves lives: Constable Care's Play Safe Plan educates children on issues including road safety.

Whether you drive, ride a bike or like to walk, road safety is something that is relevant to everyone. This is especially true of families with young children. Learning to treat roads and vehicles with respect is often one of the first, and certainly one of the most important messages parents pass on to their children.
In the 2010-2011 year Western Australia was the only Australian state with an increase in road fatalities. Each year in WA an average of 20 children under the age of 16 are killed on the roads, either as passengers, pedestrians or cyclists. A further 280 are seriously injured. There are a number of reasons for these statistics such as children’s small stature affecting their visibility to motorists, children’s difficulty in judging direction of sounds and vehicle speed, and their susceptibility to distractions.
Recent studies have shown that despite an ever increasing amount of money being spent on games consoles and ‘indoor toys’ for children, they are at their happiest when playing outside with their peers. Whilst this is encouraging from a societal point of view, it brings into focus the need to educate children about the dangers they may face, and the safest and most appropriate ways to avoid them.
Constable Care’s Play Safe Plan is a puppet show aimed at children from pre-primary to year 3. In addition to addressing themes such as stranger danger, there is a strong focus on road safety issues, encompassing bike safety, crossing the road and wearing a seatbelt. The performance complements and enhances the key road safety messages communicated by parents and educators, and does so in an entertaining and memorable way.
